ABOUT UKTHEATRESCHOOL

UKTheatreSchool is the UK's most Prestigious Training Ground for Young Talent. This school teaches the fundamentals and the detail without turning young people into performing monkeys. Every student is encouraged to be an individual as well as understanding the importance of being part of a team. Placement into this school is strictly by audition. The schools has its Scottish headquarters located in central Glasgow.

Our Academies hold one major performance per year showcasing the music drama school skills covered by our students. This usually presents itself as a Full Scale Musical Production. It is this theatre school's ethos to encourage its Students and reward them each summer with the chance to perform new and innovative material and work with a specially commissioned Professional Creative and Production Teams in their end of year Productions. Last summer our Students completed their Summer Festival 2005 Show 'Seussical, the Musical' based on the works of Dr Seuss. Our Cast performed to sell out audiences each night and received fantastic reviews for their work. This year our specially commissioned Professional Director is Mr Alasdair Hawthorn and our Summer Show Festival for 2006 is Hot Mikado. Hot Mikado will be showing at The Tramway Theatre on 17th August, 18th August and 19th August at 7pm. Tickets available at Tramway Box Office 0845 330 3501 priced Adults £12 and Children £10 (there are no other concessions). If you would like any further information on our school please call our office or email us and request a Prospectus to be sent to your home for your perusal.

Each year UKTheatreSchool bring in songwriters to write an original song for its students. After rehearsing this song the students go along to a chosen recording studio and lay down their voices with their already prepared track. The theatre school hire in session drummers, guitarists etc to complete the track before the students enter the studio to work with a professional Sound Engineer. This type of experience is valuable to those individuals wishing pursue a singing career. UKTheatreSchool is for young performers' age 4 to 19 years old wishing to develop their creative talents in Acting, Singing, Dance and Musical Theatre.

This year UKTheatreSchool Principle & Managing Director, Lizanne Thomson chose Tin Pan Alley Recording Studios in Covent Garden, London. Lizanne felt this was a fabulous introduction to Recording Studio work; Tin Pan Alley Recording Studios are based in Denmark Street in London. This famous place is where the Rolling Stones cut their first ever album, The Who recorded their, along with The Kinks, Small Faces, Sex Pistols, etc. Elton John and The Beatles rehearsed their and recently the whole London cast of the Lion King recorded theire. “It is fantastic to surround our students with this type of history, involving them in experiences that will stick with them. The Recording day at Tin Pan Alley was fantastic and our London Students had the time of their life working with much acclaimed Sound Engineer Steve Kent. Steve admitted “At first I had my reservations about a theatre school coming in and doing that whole ‘stage school’ thing. I couldn’t believe the talent and have taken prospectuses and UKTheatreSchool details to pass on as I think what they are doing is something different, something a bit special. These kids are getting amazing experience and working with amazing people. I can’t commend them enough”.

In Glasgow over the past few years UKTheatreSchool have used The Craigmont Studios within the Glasgow Media Park. These studios are brilliantly equipped to accommodate large numbers and have the patience necessary when working with young people. The Studios have welcomed the school back each year. Year after year they are astonished at the caliber in Glasgow and are not surprised at the amount of older students who have now gone onto top London Performing Arts colleges like Italia Conti, Mountview, Arts Ed, London Studio Centre etc. Sound Engineer DP Johnson “you cannot deny the talents here, the people working with these young people deserve a medal with what they are doing. Brilliant”.

UKTheatreSchool take care only to involve students who truly want to be part of a Performing Arts Academy as this is a training ground and not a 'drama club'! Some youth programs outwith UKTheatreSchool are 'enrolment only' and no audition is necessary however; if you feel you or your child are ready for the next step up in Performing Arts then to complete an audition is part of that process. Although our Term Times are geared around Students training and working hard - it has proved that Students working hard in an environment they wish to be in is both exciting and enjoyable. UKTheatreSchool understands that each young person is a uniquely creative individual with specific strengths and needs and we always aim to address these one-to-one or within the group dynamic. We know each young person can approach learning differently and with varied training and experienced tutors there are a number of ways to enable a student to access an idea or technique.

We also cater for Students wishing to Specialise in certain areas of Performing Arts like Intense Voice Training, Singing Lessons, Audition Preparation classes and a Masterclass in Musical Theatre with some of the country's Top Coaches. These specialist classes are available within Glasgow at The UK Rehearsal Studios for Dramatic & Performing Arts aswell as in London at Danceworks Studios. UKTheatreSchool works within centres of excellence while training and rehearsing its students. We believe that students work better in an environment where all others around them are passionate about entertainment and performance.
